This shake is so yummy and satisfying! I have had one almost everyday this week! Yes, it really is super healthy and it’s thanks to a new way of eating I’ve found. The past few years I have been hearing about this new “diet” called Trim Healthy Mama here and there on the internet. For some reason I really didn’t give it much thought (probably because I am skeptical of diets in general). One of my dear friends, Sarah from Hope in Every Season, just started THM and saw results in the first week. This alone convinced me to look into it a little more and then I bought the book to really dig deep. After reading the book I became convinced that I needed to try it out. After 6 pregnancies in 9 years… my BMI is suffering!
Our latest addition a BOY!
This last pregnancy was awful in many ways. I gained more weight than I wanted (40#’s) and started out overweight! This is partly due to my eating habits, but also I become immobile during the last half of my pregnancies due to a ligament problem. I know that I have an unhealthy relationship with sugar and after having Gestational Diabetes this really scared me. Trim Healthy Mama focuses on the glycemic index of foods so you can avoid the high and low blood sugars that high glycemic foods induce. Even if I don’t lose an ounce I know controlling my blood sugar will be worth it, but I really hope to lose all my baby weight and then some!
I have decided to devote Thursdays to Trim Healthy Mama recipes to help me stay on track. The good thing about Trim Healthy Mama recipes is that they really do taste great and are healthy. For more info on how the diet works you really need to read the book Trim Healthy Mama (affiliate link)! This doesn’t mean that I won’t post recipes that are not on the THM way of eating… so if you are a THM reading this please note that my recipes are not THM exclusively and most of them are not, but THM recipes will have their own little section.
Now onto the recipe! This is seriously good… even my 3 year old sweet tooth raves about it!
Skinny Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake! {Trim Healthy Mama S or FP}

So yummy and thick you won't believe it is skinny! Disclosure: This recipe contains affiliate links to help support the maintenance of this site.
Ingredients
- 1 to 2 cups of ice
- 1 cup of light almond milk, I use almond breeze
- 1 scoop unsweetened vanilla or plain protein powder I have also used 1 to 2 Tbsp. of hemp protein with good results also, I like Swanson brand
- 1/2 tsp or more to taste Mint Extract, Mint is different than peppermint extract, You can sub with peppermint, but I would use less of it.
- Truvia, Stevia or other THM approved sweetener to taste. I always use a few shakes of Stevia and about 2 tsp. of Truvia in mine.
- 1 square of >85% dark chocolate
- This is where you can make it your own. I add in 1 handful of spinach, but you can add greens or liquid chlorophyll drops... all are healthy options... just add in slowly to taste
- optional items:
- Natural blue food coloring I use this to give it more of a "minty" color although it looks really good without it too., you can find all natural plant based food dyes
- 2 to 4 Tbsp. Heavy Cream this would make it an "S" otherwise it is a "FP"
- 1/8 to 1/4 tsp of Glucomannan powder or Xantham Gum, adds thickness
Instructions
- Chop the chocolate into little bits that will fit through a straw. Add the rest of the ingredients into a blender and blend until thick, creamy and smooth. You will need a high power blender for this... I use a Ninja. Add the chocolate into it and blend for a few seconds to incorporate. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

This is a delicious shake! I don't have almond milk on hand so instead put in some plain greek yogurt and water. My 7 year old can't get enough!

Oh my gosh, I just made this milkshake, and is it ever yummy!!! I used Kale, not spinach, though I know it would taste great with that too - don't have any in my fridge right now, so tried Kale and it's delicious! :) Thanks for posting this recipe! :)
