Encanto Cake * How to Make an Encanto Party Cake

The word around the street is that kids everywhere are asking for an Encanto party. Who can blame them? Encanto is a classic Disney movie with magic and fun!

This tutorial will show you how to make an Encanto cake that lights up with magical butterflies. Make it easy to decorate by using sprinkles and candy (plus it’s tasty too).

The hit movie “Encanto” took me by surprise when we first watched it. I expected to like it but I ended up LOVING it. It has become one of my family’s top favorite movies and so naturally I knew that my kids would be wanting me to create an Encanto cake! We decided that Mirabel’s dress would be the inspiration with the yellow butterflies and other Encanto themed elements. All of the decoration are actually inspired from parts of the movie.

I used Mirabel’s dress as inspiration for the cake and I made it a blue ombre color. On top are Hershey’s hugs candies to represent the white and black collar on her dress. I also added lots of colorful candies and sprinkles to the sides of the cake to look like the embroidery on the dress. Peanut M&Ms with mini M&Ms make cute flowers and Air Head Extremes make fun rainbow decorations.

I always try to use candies and sprinkles on my cakes instead of relying on a lot of piping for decorations. This makes it so much easier for me and less time consuming. I just have to place the candies on the cake and I am done! The piping on the top and bottom are not necessary but they do add a nice touch.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients. To begin, make sure you have all the necessary ingredients to bring your Encanto cake to life. You will need:

  • Cake mix (your choice of flavor)
  • Frosting (vanilla or any flavor that complements your cake)
  • Food coloring (various vibrant colors)
  • Fondant (optional, for additional decorative elements)
  • Edible decorations (sprinkles, edible glitter, etc.)
  • Cake decorating tools (pastry bags, tips, spatulas, etc.)
  • Disney Encanto Small Toy Figurines
  • Felt in Orange, Yellow, Pink and lime green (for the pendant)
  • Chop Sticks (for the pendant)
  • Yarn (for the pendant)
  • Balloon Lights (for the butterflies)
  • Gold Edible Paper (for butterflies)

Step 2: Bake the Cake. Layers Follow the instructions on the cake mix box to prepare and bake the cake layers. Allow them to cool completely before moving on to the next step. I used two 8 inch layers for this cake.

Step 3: Ice the Cake. Once your cake layers have cooled completely, it’s time to frost it. Start by applying a layer of frosting between each cake layer, creating a stack. Then, divide the remaining frosting into separate bowls and add food coloring to each bowl, creating a vibrant blue/ green color, white and vibrant pink. I used a small piping tip to make the pink dots around the bottom of the cake once the two layers were iced. Then at the top I used white icing with a large star tip for the edge and then placed Hershey kisses on top of that. The kisses looked like the black and white parts of her dress!

Step 4: Decorate. Now comes the fun part – decorating your cake with candies. Let your creativity shine as you add sprinkles, edible glitter, and other decorative elements to make your cake truly sparkle like the magical Mirabel. I used candies that reminded me of her beautiful dress. I used M&M’s, flower sprinkles, air heads sour strips (rainbow colored) M&Ms and peanut M&Ms.

Step 5: Finishing Touches. Mirabel is a small figurine I found at Walmart. Then I used two chopsticks, yarn and felt to make a pendant like they have in the movie. Just cut tiny pendant shapes out of the felt and hot glue them onto the yarn. Then tie the yarn on the two chopsticks. Place the pendant on the cake. Make sure that you either take the pendant off first when lighting the candles or they may catch on fire! Speaking of candles, I used sparkler candles just for fun.

Step 6: Add the glowing butterflies (optional). I used tiny balloon lights with edible gold butterflies that I cut from a gold icing sheet on top. You’ll need to cover the lights with plastic wrap first and then push them into the cake where you want the butterflies. Do this up to 4 hours ahead of time because you’ll need to turn the lights on before putting them into the cake. Our lights lasted 24 hours, but they did start to dim a little bit at the end. Next, cut out butterflies from the edible gold paper and secure them with a little icing onto the cake over the lights. This was my favorite part of the cake!

Creating a Disney Encanto cake is a delightful way to celebrate the magic of this fun animated film. From the colorful layers and vibrant frosting to the edible decorations, every part of this cake is inspired by the movie. So, gather your ingredients, unleash your imagination, and embark on this sweet tasty adventure. Let this Encanto cake fill the hearts of all who taste it. Happy Creating!
