Crafts for Kids: Basket of Acorns

This week we have been studying leaves in our homeschool curriculum (My Father’s World Kinder).  Today we went to the park, collected acorns and made this super cute craft!

For the basket and acorns you will need:
Acorn Caps
School Glue
Pom Poms (small and mini size)

1 piece scrapbook paper
1 plastic individual size cereal container (cleaned)
Ribbon

Take the seed out from the cap… throw them back outside for the squirrels.

Put a drop of glue in the cap and place a pompom inside. That was easy! Now make the rest of the acorns…

Grab the cereal box and have a snack.

Take the empty and now clean cereal bowl and cut the outer lip off.

Trace the bowl around the bottom on the paper and cut out.  Also make two marks for the sides and cut a strip the full width of the paper.

Then tape the strip of paper around the outside.  Also tape the other piece to the inside of the bowl.

Now start folding a handle… It should be about 1 inch wide and make sure you use enough paper for 4 to 5 folds.

Tape it together.  Then tape it to the inside of the basket.  Tie some ribbon around the sides… and there you go!

Cute! My daughter absolutely loves her acorn basket.  Not only is it cute, but it is educational. Now you can sort your acorns by color and size.  Have your child take the acorns and make patterns with the colors or just simply start counting them.  Tons of lessons from one easy craft!

Happy Creating!
