I love boutique hair-bows, but not the price-tag!!!
I took lots of pics so bear with me here… this particular bow was made with hot pink 7/8″ grosgrain ribbon and black and white polka dot ribbon in smaller size (it does not state size on package!). I used an alligator clip covered with ribbon- see my other tutorials on how to do this here. You will also need a needle, thread and hot glue…
Let’s get started.
First cut about 28 inches of ribbon. Start by making a simple loop on one end…
Take the other end of ribbon and make another loop going across the first one.
Now it gets a little bit trickier here, but just take your time and you will get it. Take the end of the last loop that you made and make another loop going the opposite way. (hopefully my pictures can explain!)
Make your final loop to make 4 loops in all…then take an alligator clip and secure ribbon in place. You can make subtle changes to the shape of the bow at this point. Once you have the bow the way you want it start sewing a simple stitch several times through the middle. This particular alligator clip I used was perfect for this because I did not have to remove it to make the stitch.
Once the first bow has been stitched leave clip and thread/ needle in place to the back of the bow because we will be using the same thread for the second bow. All I did to make the second bow was make 2 simple loops and cut off at ends. Now you can secure with your clip on top of first bow, and make a few stitches through the second to secure. Once done with this step knot your stitching secure.
At this point you are ready to make your bow look more like a bow! Many use wire for this next step, I personally prefer the method shown below. Take a medium length of thread and wrap it around the bow in the middle. Tightly tie a knot to where the ribbon is scrunched up in the middle. Wrap thread around again to the back side and make another tight knot. Cut off any loose threads.
Now you are ready for the finishing touch! Take your ribbon on the roll and make a knot about an inch from the end… then once you have the knot cut it off with about an inch to spare on both ends.
Take the knot and hot glue it evenly on top of the bow.
Wrap the loose ends around to the back and hot glue them one on top of the other.
Now place your clip that has been wrapped with ribbon securely with hot glue on the back of bow.
Now you are finished!!!
There you go! Of course the bow on the right is just as precious, maybe that tutorial will be next!
