My daughters absolutely LOVE fruit! They would probably eat fruit over just about anything. I have been eying those edible fruit arrangements for some time as a possible birthday gift for the girls but the price tag is crazy high for the amount of fruit that you get. So I made my own! It really wasn’t very hard at all… in fact I think this might be a new era for me… It would be the perfect gift for several occasions. A new mother home from the hospital would love to be gifted with one of these. Or maybe a mother’s day gift. The possibilities are endless!
Here is how I made mine…
(it took me about 30-45 minutes to complete the project)
First I figured out what kinds of fruit that I wanted
1 Pineapple
box of strawberries
1 cantaloupe
1 bunch of grapes
Other supplies: a large vase, florist foam and heavy duty skewers or chopsticks.
I first balled some of the cantaloupe and set aside. I also blotted them with a towel to get rid of any excess juices.
Next I sliced my pineapple into 1/2 inch sections width wise. From there I took a cookie cutter and made the flower shapes.
With the florist foam and skewers/ chopsticks already in place I started forming the arrangement with the pineapple and melons first to make sure that they were placed evenly.
Next came the grapes… I just placed as many as I could to the skewers.
Once I liked my grape placement the rest of the spaces were filled with strawberries. I also took some toothpicks and placed a few strawberries around the bottom to help fill it out. You can add as much fruit as you want to your own (as long as your vase will hold it all). Also make note that florist foam is yucky to eat, so be careful not to get any on the fruit… one way to do this would be to place decorative leaf lettuce around the bottom to make a barrier between the florist foam and the fruit. I didn’t have any on hand and it worked out just fine!
Here is the final peice with the strawberries in place.
I think it turned out lovely! My daughter jumped for joy when she saw it… she absolutely loved it and kept coming back for more pineapple “flowers”. It was well worth the time to make it!
Be creative with yours… add some oranges, chocolate covered bananas or whatever your heart desires… only note that really juicy fruits are not good for these arrangements!
Happy Creating!
