Fruit of the Spirit Tree

A while back I posted about our Fruit of the Spirit Tree that I created to hang on our wall.  It was a great tool that we used to teach our kids about the Fruits of the Spirit, but we only used it for maybe a week at the most.  I wanted to use it longer, but since it was made out of paper it just didn’t last!   Today I am going to show you the permanent solution for the tree!

The tree is simply made with a jewelry tree I found at Target, a silver sharpie (for the writing) and little apple ornaments I found at Hobby Lobby.  So easy!  The purpose of the tree is to teach my kids about character as it is taught in the Bible.  The Bible list several “fruits” of the Spirit:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

I teach my girls that when they are abiding in Christ they will bear fruit!  This is a somewhat hard thing to grasp for children, but now that we have the tree it is much easier to explain.

Every week we clear the tree of the fruits.  When I catch my girls being loving, patient, kind and so on they get one fruit to place on the tree accordingly.  The goal is that they are able to place all 9 of the fruits on the tree every week.  One thing we want to start  is to let them start noticing the fruits in each other.

The options are endless and my girls LOVE it when they can put one of the fruits on the tree.  When the week is through we celebrate the fruits as a family!

We also love singing this Fruit of the Spirit song too!

Now to go see if I can find them being loving to each other… 😉  Maybe we need one of these for Mommy and Daddy too… I could use a little more patience! 😛

I'm lovin' this! What a great way to help kids understand what the fruit of the Spirit really means. Per the last part of your post, maybe I need one of these too (just for Mommy and Daddy). LOL I definitely need more patience too, right there with ya. Thanks for linking this up to Inspire Me Wednesday!

Wow, this is so cool. Pretty and educational! I love that you reward them when you see them practicing the fruits! Can't wait to see if they see the fruits in each other. Don't get me started on how much more patience I need. Though having a child certainly forces you to!
