My husband and I just celebrated our 11th Anniversary on the 14th of August. Every week our local Christian radio station has a drawing for those celebrating an anniversary and we were picked the weeks of ours. We were treated for a dinner for two at The Melting Pot! We really enjoyed our dinner, but funny enough… it was the drink that I could not stop thinking about! They have a Blackberry Sage Lemonade that is so yummy. Our hostess was the one to recommend it and I am so glad she did.
Sage doesn’t seem like something that you would want in your drink, and when she suggested that I try one I was a little hesitant. She insisted she gets one almost everyday and was actually drinking one on her break so I decided to go ahead and order it. To my surprise… it didn’t taste anything like Thanksgiving! lol The sage really added a nice herby taste that worked well with the sour a sweet juices. I knew that I had to make this on my own and this recipe tastes just like it! Note: you can order this drink at The Melting Pot with alcohol, but you can also order it without. This recipe version is non-alcoholic.
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 to 6 cups water
- 2 cups lemon juice
- around 10 fresh sage leaves
- For the blackberry syrup:
- 16 oz . fresh blackberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- Garnish per drink:
- 1 blackberry that is split in half
- 1 small sage leaf
- 1/4 wedge of lemon to place onto glass
- Make the blackberry syrup first by cooking the sugar and blackberries in a small saucepan on medium low heat. Mash blackberries as you cook them in the sugar and let them release their juices. Once it starts looking syrupy then turn the heat off and let your syrup cool down.
- Make the lemonade by combining the sugar, water and lemon juice together in a large pitcher. The water calls for 4 to 6 cups of water because it depends on how you like your lemonade. Add 4 cups first then add more water if you like a little weaker lemonade.
- Once you are ready to serve the drinks. Fill glasses with ice and 1 cup of lemonade. Take 2 Tbsp. of the blackberry syrup and 1 sage leave and mix them together in a small bowl. Press down on the sage leaf as you stir to release more of the flavor. Take this mixture and pour it into the lemonade and mix them together. Optional: garnish each drink with floating split blackberry and sage leaf. Then add a lemon on the side of the glass.
- Optional serving suggestion. If you just want to make the mixture ahead of time to pout onto ice. You can mix the whole blackberry mixture into the pitcher of lemonade and add the 10 sage leaves. Mix well and serve over ice.
