Animal Print Cupcakes! {Leopard Cake and Zebra Cake}

These Animal Print Cakes are SO cute and fun!!!  I think any girl would love the fun designs that are not only on the outside, but on the inside too!  Perfect for a baby shower or birthday party!!!  I made these pink, but any color scheme would be just as fun.  The cupcake liners and picks are from Walmart.  I think they are just a Valentine’s Day item.. so get them soon if you want them!

Zebra Print Cupcakes

Zebra Print Cupcakes.
Servings: 24
Author: Rachel

Ingredients

  • 1 White Cake Mix with ingredients that are on the box to make it
  • 1/4 cup of cocoa powder
  • pink food coloring (or whatever color you want.
  • 24 Cupcake liners

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven to 350 degrees. Make cake mix according to the package. Seperate the cake mix into two equal parts in two different bowls. Mix a few drops of food coloring in one half and the cocoa powder in the other half. If the half with cocoa seems too thick... add a tbsp. of water to thin it down.
  • Put cupcake liners into a muffin tin and using one tsp. at a time add a little pink batter. Right on top of the pink batter add a tsp. of cocoa batter in the middle. Alternate the two batters until you reach about 2/3 of the way full. Each time you add a little batter give the pan a shake to help the batter spread evenly. Repeat with all 24 cupcakes and bake at 350 for 19-23 minutes or until the cake bounces back and a toothpick comes out clean. Enjoy!

Leopard Print Cupcakes

Leopard Print Cupcakes are so cute and perfect for a party!
Servings: 24
Author: Rachel

Ingredients

  • 1 White Cake Mix and ingredients to make according to package directions
  • 1 bottle pink food coloring
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 Piping bags
  • 1 Tip #4
  • 1 Tip #47
  • 1 Tip #10
  • 24 cupcake liners

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Make cake batter according to package. Take out 3/4 cup of the batter and put in a small bowl and set aside. Then divide remaining batter into two equal parts in separate bowls. Mix in a couple of drops of pink food coloring and flour into one half- you want a thick batter so use more flour if needed. Mix in cocoa powder into the other half- if the batter is not thick enough mix in a tbsp. or two of AP flour. Both batters should be more of a brownie batter consistency than cake.
  • The small bowl of batter should be mixed with several drops of pink (or whatever color) food coloring so that it is a saturated color. Add some flour to thicken.
  • Line your muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • Fill one piping bag that is fitted with a #4 tip with the saturated colored batter. Fill another piping bag fitted with a #47 tip with the cocoa batter, Then fill the last piping bag that is fitted with the #10 tip with the light colored batter.
  • To make each cupcake:
  • Take the light colored batter piping bag and make a thin layer of batter on the bottom of one cupcake liner. Take your cocoa batter and pipe a circle and a small dot inside the circle (see pic). Take the saturated colored and pipe right on top of the cocoa circle and the dot. Then take the cocoa batter and pipe it on top of the saturated color making sure to completely cover it. You basically want the cocoa batter to encase the saturated color batter. Then take the light colored batter and pipe around all the gaps to make an even layer. Then pipe a thin layer of the light colored batter on top of that to completely cover the other layers. If you have enough room repeat the pattern, but only fill to 2/3 of the way full.
  • Repeat for each cupcake and bake at 350 for 19-23 minutes until it bounces back and toothpick comes out clean. Enjoy!

These cupcakes do take a little time to make, but they are easy and so cute!  Everyone will wonder how in the world you made them!!!

I first saw how to make the zebra design for a full sized cake on Candice’s blog at All Things Walker.  Check out her Zebra Cake Tutorial!

The Leopard design was also a full sized cake that I scaled down to cupcake size.  See the youtube tutorial from The Crumb Boss!
