This has been a year of the grilled food in our household.  I feel like we finally grew up a little after purchasing our first nice gas grill and we love finding new recipes to cook on it.  These Orange Teriyaki Grilled Cornish Hens is one of our favorite recipes because it’s super easy to make and only requires 3 ingredients for the chicken.  I used Tyson® Cornish Hens and a blend of Kikkoman® Sauces and the taste is out of this world!  This recipe will put store bought rotisserie chickens to shame (and we love rotisserie chicken).

The chicken begins overnight marinating in a mixture of Kikkoman® Orange Sauce mixed with a little Kikkoman® Soy Sauce.  The yummy flavors really soak into the small cornish hens and give the chicken a great taste and make the chicken “juicy”!   We like using Kikkoman Soy Sauce because it is traditionally brewed and is a versatile flavor enhancer. We use it on many dishes in addition to Asian dishes to enhance the flavor of our meals.

We bought our Tyson® Cornish Hens at Walmart in the freezer section.  These came in a two pack which is the perfect serving size for our family.  If you are just cooking for two then you could get away with one… which makes this an even better deal!  We also buy our Kikkoman® Sauces at Walmart too.

  • 2 Tyson® Cornish Hens
  • 1/2 cup Kikkoman® Orange Sauce plus more for glazing
  • 2 Tbsp . Kikkoman® Soy Sauce
  • Optional:
  • 1 orange sliced

  1. Around 12 to 24 hours before grilling... marinate the 2 Tyson® Cornish Hens with the 2 Kikkoman® Sauces in a closed container stored in the refrigerator.
  2. When you are ready to cook. Heat up the grill to medium heat. Meanwhile take the Tyson® Cornish Hens and butterfly them down the middle so that they cook more evenly. Once they are butterflied then place them on the grill grates breast side up first. Cook for around 10 minutes and turn them over. Grill for another 3 to 5 minutes on the breast side to get some good grill marks and then move the hens out of the direct heat... either on the top rack if you have one or turn one of the burners off where the chickens are (or move the charcoals to the side opposite of the chicken if grilling with charcoal). Now glaze the chicken with more of the Kikkoman® Sauce Orange Sauce and finish cooking until the chicken reaches at least 165 degrees F. Remove from the grill and serve.
  3. Serving suggestion: on a bed of rice and stir fry vegetables with grilled orange slices.
