Top Photography Tips for Bloggers

which one

Do you think that taking great photographs means that you need to own a DSLR camera?   You may be able to tell which pic is an iphone pic and which one is from a DSLR from the photos above, but they both are great photographs…right?

When I first started this blog in 2008 I didn’t have a DSLR camera.  I had a “good” camera, but it was not a DSLR.  One thing that I realized right off was that I could get good photos outdoors, but I had a hard time getting acceptable ones indoors.   A DSLR camera could have helped a little, but nothing can replace great lighting in photography.  I would dare say that it’s the first and most important thing to consider before anything else!    I could buy expensive  equipment and lenses (which help a great deal), but won’t do me any good if I just plan to take pics haphazardly without regard to my lighting situation.

To quote one of my FAVORITE photographers: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.”  -Ansel Adams

Want to find out what makes a great lighting situation?

Come to SoFabCon to find out!  I will be sharing Top Photography Tips for Bloggers in a special session with the  help from one of my mentors, Stewart Cox.

I’ve learned quite a bit in the last 6 years of blogging and I am excited to be able to share it.    I really believe that you can “make” great photos with a non-DSLR camera or even a camera phone if that is what you have.    We will be learning a lot about lighting and ways that you can improve your lighting  (even indoors).   I will also share tips that I have learned that can help your photos get noticed on all the different social media sites. I hope to see you there!

BTW- this conference is for those in the Collective Bias/ Social Fabric Community.  Click  on the pic to find out more!

I will have an ebook on sale (after the event) for those of you that can’t make it out to this session.   I will be sure to keep you all informed!

In the meantime… what is your favorite photography tip you’ve learned so far?

You are definitely right about the lighting! I think the first picture was taken with your DSLR and the bottom one with your phone. You can't keep me hangin' though. Which is which? :o)

I'm a sucker for all things photography - my DSLR was the best purchase I ever made! Seriously, I'm obsessed. :) When I found out there would be a photography session at SoFabCon I was even MORE excited than I already am!

The SoFab U photo class I took helped me A LOT. I use my iPhone for all my photos since that class (til I can afford a DSLR). I still have more to learn I'm sure and I'm looking forward to your session at SoFabCon.

Thanks for this encouragement about not necessarily needing a great camera to take nice pictures. I only use my iPhone camera for my blog photos because it's what I have and what I know how to use. Sometimes we have to do the best we can with what we have! :)

Yes we do! iphones are great little tools too... you can take them everywhere... where as my DSLR is a pain to travel with :)
