My kids love eating outdoors and they always ask me if we can have a picnic as soon as the weather warms up. I don’t mind eating outside because that is less that I have to clean up! I thought that we could kick off a little fun in the sun with a fun Summer Picnic Party! We included our favorites like Oklahoma Onion Burgers, Iced Tea, BBQ Baked Beans, Strawberry Banana Fruit Salad, Sunflower Cupcakes and New Heinz® Yellow Mustard.
My home state of Oklahoma is known for Onion Burgers. The story goes that onion burgers were born out of necessity and the onions helped stretch the beef further during the Great Depression. The result was a very tasty burger that is still eaten today. The burger juices help to cook up the onions which makes them caramelized and super tasty!
This is my grilled version of the kind you can get at some of our famous diners.
Summer Picnic Party
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef made into patties
- 2 large onions sliced thin
- seasoning salt
- other:
- buns
- Heinz Yellow Mustard
- tomato
- lettuce
Instructions
- Heat grill and place foil on top of the grill cooking surface. Place burgers on the grill and onions to the side. Heat burgers until they are fully cooked and cook onions until they are caramelized. Let the burger juices help cook the onions. Sprinkle with a little seasoning salt. Place on buns or serving plate and serve with Heinz Yellow Mustard and other burger toppings.

Onion Burgers and Heinz Yellow Mustard are the perfect match. We make sure to pile the mustard and onions on high! I noticed that Heinz Yellow Mustard has a new formula and is now better than ever. I also use Heinz Yellow Mustard in my Barbecue Baked Beans with French Fried Onions. It makes the beans sweet and tangy! Just make your favorite recipe for Barbecue beans and add french fried onions and a tsp. of Heinz Yellow Mustard.
We also had fruit salad at our picnic party. No picnic would be complete without a tasty fruit salad. This one is simply made with strawberries and bananas.
I made this Sunflower Cupcake basket for our picnic and it really brought the whole party theme together! SEE THE TUTORIAL FOR SUNFLOWER CUPCAKES HERE! I love how they looked on the table. I used my leaf tip to pipe the flower petals and chocolate covered sunflower seeds placed for the middle. I also made cute ladybugs with red skittles!
It turned out to be such a beautiful day for a picnic party and it became a relaxing evening. I love summer grilling!
