Are you a working mom that usually eats out for lunch?  If so, I think that you will love these DIY Café Style Sandwiches!  Even if you are not a working mom… these recipes are fabulous!  I mainly stay home, but it’s still tempting to want to go out to eat out for lunch all the time!  Especially when I am craving a  Café  type sandwich.  What’s a girl to do?

When you picture making and taking your own sandwich to work (or wherever) what do you see?  Most likely it is something like this:

PB Sandwich

If  the picture above of a peanut butter and (insert jelly/ banana/ honey) sandwich is what comes to mind then you are not alone!

There is nothing wrong with a PB&J sandwich, but a Café style sandwich is what I usually crave!   I figure that I am not alone because I constantly see new Café shops popping up all over town!   The only problem is that,  by the time I add chips and a drink to my fancy sandwich, the meal can cost over $10.00!   That amount adds up quickly, but I have recently found a solution to the Café sandwich conundrum: which is to make them myself!   These Café sandwiches are very simple, easy and affordable to make!  In fact I added up the cost to make each sandwich and {get this} they were all under $2.50 to make!   {Read on for the recipes}

The key to a great sandwich is the ingredients.  If a Café quality sandwich is your aim then you need to focus on the best tasting products.  I recently tried and fell in love with the Castlewood brand lunch meats.  They are very high quality, but they are also affordable!   I purchased the Variety Pack of Castlewood shaved deli meats from Sam’s Club.   I also picked up a variety pack of Castlewood Deli Sliced Cheeses.  You can see the rest of my shopping trip on Google Plus.

These deli slices are wonderful!  They are even great on their own too.  I often catch myself or the girls snacking on them right out of the fridge.  😉  I love the variety packs of Castlewood meats and cheeses because I can create a different sandwich each day!   Here are just a few recipes that can be made with these selections:

Turkey Bacon 2

This sandwich can rival any Café menu selection.  I made it with the Castlewood Oven- Roasted Turkey, Bacon, Castlewood Provolone Cheese, Leaf Lettuce and my recipe for Roasted Red Pepper Spread!   The Roasted Red Pepper Spread is excellent with the Castlewood Oven Roasted Turkey!

Roasted Red Pepper Spread on Bread

Oven Roasted Turkey, Bacon and Provolone with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3-5 slices Castlewood Oven Roasted Turkey
  • 1-2 slices Castlewood Provolone Cheese
  • 2 slices Sourdough Sandwich Bread
  • 2 slices of cooked bacon
  • 1 Leaf of Lettuce
  • Roasted Red Pepper Spread, see notes on how to make

Instructions

  1. Stack sandwich starting with the Roasted Red Pepper Spread spread onto the bottom piece of bread. Add the layer of lettuce, Turkey, Cheese, and then bacon. For that Café "look" slice down the middle and serve with 2 frilly toothpicks in each. Enjoy!

Notes

For the Roasted Red Pepper Spread take 1 slice of Roasted Red Pepper (I find these near the pickles) and chop it up. Take 2 Tbsp. of Mayo and mix it with the Red Pepper. Add 1/2 tsp. of smoked paprika (affiliate link) and mix. Spread onto the sandwich. Makes 2 servings.

You can serve these sandwiches with any side combo you want.  I personally like it with just a pickle and maybe some chips or an apple!  I think you will love these!
