Since the age of 4 my family took me to Applewoods Restaurant in Oklahoma City for my birthday dinner. Applewoods was a very unique restaurant that had apples as a theme on the menu. It may have seemed like a strange place to take a little kid for their birthday, but let’s just say I was the “princess” type and it suited me well. Plus they served these awesome little Apple Fritters and the moment you were finished with the first one they laid another on your plate. I loved this place and we went every single year, but unfortunately they closed around 2005 (just before my birthday!). So now I have been searching for recipes that are similar to the ones served at Applewoods and have plenty to share with you all! The first one I am sharing is the Applewoods Green on Green Salad.
(This is a pic of my best friend and I on my 16th birthday out of the top of a limo… In my left hand is an apple balloon from Applewoods that they would often hand out to kids! )
Applewoods served two signature salads… the Green on Green and the Apple Waldorf. I always chose the Green on Green myself. The ingredients for the dressing are very simple. Grated Parmesan, mayonnaise, sour cream and minced garlic. Yep… that is it! I know that it sounds more like Alfredo than a Salad Dressing, but you’ll just have to trust me- it’s amazing!
The other ingredient that is unique to this salad is the minced cauliflower. I always thought it looked like cheese, but it really adds a nice flavor to the salad. I really have no idea why it is called Green on Green Salad, but I love it no matter what it is called! Enjoy!
Applewood's Green on Green Salad copycat

A beautiful salad with cauliflower crumbles and a distinct dressing with lots of flavor!
Ingredients
- DRESSING:
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 tsp . garlic powder, can add more to taste
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- SALAD:
- 1 head iceberg lettuce
- 1 head romaine lettuce
- 1/2 cup chopped cauliflower
- cherry tomatoes, at least one per plate
- 6 oz. fresh baby spinach, optional
- I don't remember what lettuce they actually used, but if I recall it was just romaine and iceberg.
Instructions
- Tear up the lettuce and romaine into bite sized pieces for the salad in a large bowl. Add salad dressing and cauliflower... toss to combine. Serve with a tomato (or two) with the salad. Enjoy!
- (you might want to double this recipe if you like a lot of dressing on your salad!)

I used to love the Green on Green salad at Applewoods so I was happy to find this recipe however this tastes nothing like the real dressing. I followed the recipe exactly. I guess I will keep looking.

I would love their apple Waldorf salad recipe! I work there in 1990 and the salads, rolls, fritters and soups were incredible!
I wish the owner would do a cookbook! It really was a magnificent restaurant and the science behind the food was pretty crazy. I remember we had to memorize every single ingredient in every single item on the menu before we are allowed to even serve food.
