It’s hard to believe that it was over 9 years ago when I became a mom for the first time.  So much has changed over the course of 9 years and I have learned a lot along the way.  I now have 4 kids and all of them have different personalities.  I don’t know when or how, but one day my 3rd daughter decided that she didn’t like bathing when she was around 1 years old.  Every bath became a battle at that point and I finally realized that we needed to change our routine.  Through trial and error I used several tips that helped my little one enjoy her bath time and it’s also working for my youngest who is 10 months old!

Tip #1:  Always use Tear Free Shampoo and Body Wash.  One of my favorite baby products is JOHNSON’S® ‘s Head to Toe Body Wash.  It’s made for skin and hair which makes it easier than having to use two different products (and trying to hold a slippery baby)!  The JOHNSON’S® Head to Toe Body Wash does not irritate his eyes at all… even when he rubs his eyes with soapy hands.

Tip #2:  Distract Baby with toys, songs and laughter.  I always like to put the toys in before I put my little one inside that way he has something to look forward to.   Once he is inside the bath we laugh and sing songs.  He has really developed a love for bath time because of this!

Tip #3:  Use two wash rags.  One for the baby to hold and one for you to wash with.  This has helped us so much because my baby loves to “help”!   He can also hold the wash rag up to his face now and holds it there when I pour the water on his head.

Tip #4:  Use a minimal amount of water for rinsing the head.  This is so important because just one head rinse gone wrong can make a baby nervous the second time around.  I usually use a wash rag and get it soaking wet then I gently press on it and let the water that comes out rinse him off.  It usually takes a few rounds of this, but it’s better than him getting mad that the water ran into his nose!

Tip #5: Be consistent on bath timing.  We like to give our little one a bath at night time which really relaxes him.  Because we have a routine there are not any surprises to throw him off guard.  Once we reach 10 to 15 minutes in the bath he is ready to get out!  I always make sure to have the towel handy so that when he is ready I am ready!

One thing that I have grown more cautious of over the years is the safety of the products that I use.  I trust baby products by JOHNSON’S® for use on my little ones.  I was pleased to find out that JOHNSON’S® made changes to improve the formula for several of their products including the Head to Toe Body Wash.  The JOHNSON’S® Head to Toe Body Wash is now Paraben-free, Phthalate-free, Hypoallergenic, added moisturizer to help promote skin hydration after the bath and has a new, improved hypoallergenic fragrance that is specially designed for infants!  This gives me even more reason to love JOHNSON’S® baby products.

I think the best part about bath time is having fun and getting to snuggle with a fresh smelling baby after wards!  It makes me happy to know that my little one loves his bath time.  What are your own best tips for bathing a baby?  Does your baby enjoy the bath?
