How to Make Clay Flower Cabochons

Romantic and elegant these Flower Cabochons are just simply gorgeous.   I have seen these around lately and wondered if there was a way to make my own.  I made these from polymer clay and they can be used for many applications…. the sky is the limit!  I stumbled upon some beautiful molds from a store on Etsy called “Mold Muse”. I instantly fell in love with the molds they have.  They are so intricate and beautiful.
Made out of silicone, these molds are flexible, easy to use, and will last a long time!
The best news is that they are easy to make!

What you will need:

Any of the Flower Molds found here
Polymer Clay (I used Sculpey) you can find this at most arts and crafts stores.
water bottle w/ water
Oven for baking

Take a small amount of the Polymer Clay and pinch it off.
Next spritz the mold with a little bit of water… not much!  Push the clay down in the mold.
Take up an edge and peel out. Try to peel it straight up so that the details are intact.   It will come out looking something like this… don’t let it scare you- we will take off those edges!
Take a knife and cut away the extra clay around the flower.  Bake your clay according to the directions.  Mine took 10 minutes to bake at 275 degrees F.  (I accidentally burned my first set… I put it in for 15 minutes- that was too long- you will need to watch yours to make sure they don’t turn brown)
Now that you have made your cabochons… what can you do with them?  Glad you asked!!! Come back on Thursday to find out!

Happy Creating!
