The football hoopla is over and I am ready to switch gears to basketball. Our fave football team didn’t do too well this year, but we are hopeful for our fave basketball team will go all the way! If our team makes it to the top then I have no doubt there will be a lot of parties to celebrate. When homegating for a basketball game we always include easy to make foods like Alexia fries and onion rings. Fries and onions rings are the perfect foods for serving with a yummy dip. I thought it would be appropriate to call this party a “Slam Dunk” Basketball Party and serve the dips in cups that are decorated like a basketball net.
Alexia Foods are always on my grocery list because they are high quality and all natural. The Alexia Crispy Onion Rings are a favorite for my family because they are so crunchy and delicious. I served up all the dips I made in blue cups that were decorated with fabric paint to look like a basketball net.
I can always easily find my fave varieties of Alexia products at Walmart. The Spicy Sweet Potato fries are a must try! They have a great taste with a smoky chipolte spice!
The Alexia Spicy Sweet Potato fries went perfectly with my recipe for Fiesta Dip! This dip is so creamy and flavorful with all the Mexican inspired spices.
- 1½ tsp. dried parsley
- 1½ tsp. dried minced onion
- ¾ tsp. dried chives
- 1½ tsp. chili powder
- ¾ tsp. ground cumin
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ½ C. sour cream or yogurt
- ½ C. mayonnaise
- Mix everything together and chill for 4 hours. Serve chilled.
Alexia also makes these Smart Classics Roasted Crinkle Fries that have less fat, but are still crispy and delicious. I served them up along with some Italian Dip. This Italian Dip is my favorite!
- 1 Tbsp Parmesan Cheese
- ¾ tsp Garlic Powder
- ¾ tsp Onion Powder
- ⅓ tsp Paprika
- ½ tsp Celery Seed
- ¼ tsp. season salt
- ½ cup Sour Cream
- Mix everything together 4 hours ahead and chill. Serve chilled.
To go along with the Alexia Crinkle Cut Sweet Potato Fries I serve a Ranch Herb Dip. Ranch dip is always better when you make it yourself and this one is amazing!
- 2 tsp dried parsley flakes
- 1½ tsp thyme
- 1 tsp dried onion flakes
- ¼ teaspoons garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
- 1½ cups sour cream
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tsp. lemon juice
- Mix it all together and chill for 4 hours before serving. Serve chilled.
The dip I chose for the Alexia Onion Rings was this Creamy Bacon Dip. Bacon and onions were just meant to be together and I love the smoky taste of this dip with the onion rings!
- 1 Tbsp Bacon Bits
- ½ tsp Beef Bouillon Granules
- ½ Tbsp dried Minced Onion
- ⅛ tsp dried Minced Garlic
- ½ cup Sour Cream
- Mix everything together preferably 4 hours before serving and chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
To keep the basketball theme throughout the whole party I used a towel that I cut up to look like sweat bands for the cups. I just taped a strip of the towel around each cup in the colors of our team! It was so easy and really turned out great.
You may be wondering what I used to get the basketball suspended in the net. I used a plastic punch bowl and taped the top of the net to it and then I used a tall glass jar to place the punch bowl on top. Then I placed the basketball inside the punch bowl. To finish off the look I used crepe paper for the rim and a poster board with a black square for the backboard! For the table I used some contact paper to look more like a basketball court and added white duct tape to make some boundary lines. After adding a few other items like the basketball cupcakes, whistles and small balls it made the party plan complete! This party is so easy to set up and doesn’t take a whole lot of planning. Everyone will love to make a “slam dunk” with the Alexia fries and onion rings into these delicious dips!
