When it comes to donuts there are usually two types. Cake and yeast risen. This time I wanted the yeast risen with its airy melt in your mouth feel. The problem is that I didn’t want to spend a lot of time making donuts. The words easy and yeast don’t usually come together in the same sentence, but I promise that these will be the easiest yeast risen donuts that you can make! The reason it is so easy is because I am using frozen bread dough (you can also use the frozen rolls dough too). There is no need to knead or mix anything together. The only thing that you have to do is let the dough thaw first and rise for a couple of hours. Easy, delicious and since these are baked they are a little bit healthier too!
We added glaze, lots of sprinkles and powdered sugar to our donuts!
It’s easy to add some jelly or other fillings into the donuts! I just put some store bought jelly (you can use whatever you like) into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip and squeezed it into the donut! Some other ideas are whipped cream, chocolate cream or vanilla cream. So many possibilities!
These are sure to please!
- makes 24 donut holes
- 1 Rhodes frozen bread dough loaf thawed (comes in a package of 3) (OR use 12 Rhodes frozen rolls dough thawed)
- vegetable oil spray (all natural is preferred here)
- Glaze: recipe below
- optional; sprinkles and fillings
- Separate the thawed dough into 24 even pieces and roll in your hands to make little balls. Let the dough rise for 1-2 hours in a warm area. The dough should double in size. Once it has risen turn on your cake pop maker or preheat oven to 375 degrees. If using the cake pop maker make sure to spray it with a vegetable oil spray. I use a Misto for this. Place the dough balls in the cake pop maker and let it cook for about 4 minutes. The outsides should be a light brown when taking them out. If using the oven place the dough onto a sprayed or greased baking pan and spray the dough balls with oil before baking. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned on the outside. Submerge the donuts in the glaze and then dip them in sprinkles if you want. You can also fill them with jelly or other fillings by using a star tip and a piping bag. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
