As many of you know, we had our 5th baby (our second boy) on December 9th of 2015. So a big portion of 2016 can be summed up as a year of firsts while watching him grow. It’s also been fun watching all his siblings love on him and baby him. The next step is walking which I assume may be pretty soon and maybe even before the new year. We will see!
The girls finished up their first year of dance in May and I was so very proud of how they just jumped right in and learned so much! You would have never known it was their very first year to dance… in my humble opinion ;). We loved their dance studio and the teachers, but 2016 also brought a big transition for us with my job. I guess that is the ups and downs in owning your own business…. the inconsistency it can bring. So for now, they will not be continuing in dance lessons until we are at a more stable place financially. They have been real troopers about not getting to go back this year, though! Love those girls.
My husband started a position at a landscaping company in town. I think it was a hard transition in the beginning. He has worked inside for the last 10 years or so and working outside is definitely not as easy in your “older” age ;). I am proud of the way he has handled it, though. He says he loves being in nature and just reflecting on God so that’s a great thing! I think he really enjoys his work and getting to work outside for the most part. I mean, right now I am sure he wishes for a little warmer weather. ha!
Hudson had the hardest time transitioning with the baby this year. He went from being the baby and only boy… to having a new baby brother. Both the boys are mamas boys so it was hard having to share. Now that his baby brother is getting bigger I can see that Hudson is excited that he has someone more his size to play with. I think this next year will really be fun for him because his brother will be toddling alongside him in whatever he does (and mama will probably be getting more grays)!
Facebook live hit the scene on my business Facebook page in April and I’ve been doing live shows ever since. It’s been really fun to get to know my Facebook audience and get to converse with them. Somehow I have managed to keep them interested in my show despite burning things and just general clumsiness along the way. Although I have had a few haters… for the most part there are just lovely people that love to chat and talk about FOOD! 🙂 If you want to join in then watch on Mondays and Thursdays on Facebook.
Now looking onto the future…
We have been living in our current house for 2 years now. It’s been a great place for us, and just like other homes we have lived in, it will be a little bittersweet leaving it. We brought baby 5 home here and many other memories, but the downside for us staying here is that it’s a rental. Nothing wrong with renting, but I think we are ready to own again. The other thing was that we knew that for the amount we were paying in rent we could own a much larger house. With 5 kids and a work from home job, this is something I think about often!
So we have started the building process and are excited to start that next step in our lives. We considered buying a home that was already on the market… but we met with a builder we really like and knew it was exactly what we needed to do. We are only in the planning stages right now. The house plans are pretty much ready, but we still need to sign off on them. I am a little nervous since our previous home building process didn’t pan out, but I really believe that God led us to this builder and neighborhood… so I will just trust that he’s got it all planned out. See all those trees and the soccer goal? That’s all a walking trail so we will have access to it from our backyard! Sweet! I’ll keep you all in the loop with it all and update when I can. I am assuming we will break ground in January (weather permitting) and it should be ready by May. It’s supposed to be a cold winter, though… so it may take a little longer.
I am so grateful for all the fun, laughter, love and hope that 2016 brought… and now onto 2017.
From my family to yours… We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks for stopping by!
