All opinions are mine alone. #CelebrateAmazingMoms #CollectiveBiasI am the oldest of three sisters that I love very much, but we didn’t always get along. Growing up we would argue over the craziest things and then 5 minutes later we would be happily playing together. I guess that’s just how siblings are sometimes, but we never doubted each others love! Now that we are older with families of our own… we are like best friends! I can’t think of any other two people that have some of the same childhood experiences as I do and I’ve realized just how much alike we are! Since both of my sisters are moms now, we also share in the bond of motherhood. I’m so proud of how my sisters are raising their kids and I love that my kids get to grow up around their cousins.
I wanted to do something special for them for Mother’s day and I thought a Mother’s day brunch would be a perfect get-together.
I found everything that I needed for the brunch at Walmart. They had a great selection of American Greetings cards and fun American Greetings gift bags that are perfect for Mother’s Day! I thought I could make a cute keychain for each of them out of the gift bags and so I bought extras to craft with. I loved how easy it was to mix and match with all the bags, cards, tissue and wrapping paper! Be sure to check out this Walmart.com offer (when you spend $5 on any American Greetings products, save $2).
I used all of the American Greetings items as decorations and homemade gifts for the brunch! I made fun flowers out of the tissue paper. You can find a tutorial for tissue paper flowers all over the web and they are so easy to make!
I used the cards and flowers to make a hanging wreath that was suspended over the table. It was such a pretty focal point and when the party was over I just cut the cards off the wreath to give to my sisters. To make your own wreath, you will need a grapevine wreath painted gold, thin ribbon for hanging, tissue paper flowers and American Greetings cards. I suspended the wreath by tying three ribbons attached to the wreath. I tied it to our chandelier, but you can secure it with a nail to the ceiling also. I glued the tissue paper flowers to the wreath and used a hole punch to make holes in the cards so I could tie them on the wreath. It’s so pretty that I haven’t taken it down yet!
My sisters and I all love fashion, but we each have our own unique style. I thought it would be fun to make them each a keychain wristlet that matched their own style. The American Greetings gift bags were the perfect colors and prints for this project. To make your own keychain wristlet you will need:
1 large American Greetings gift bag
thin leather ribbon
1 Key Fob Clamp and Ring or ribbon ends clamps
charms if wanted
hot glue gun
Jewelry or regular pliers for clamping
These are so simple to make! I cut out a long strip from the gift bag that was 1 inch by 9 inches. I then folded that piece together so that both sides had the pattern on it. I then hot glued the leather to the inside of the wristlet (the side where the folds show).
I then took the whole piece and placed the two ends together. Then I clamped them together with a ribbon clamp. Then I used some jewelry findings to piece it all together. I also added some charms to it. For an easier version you can try to find an actual key fob clamp instead of the ribbon clamps, but either version works! I placed these at the table with the place settings.
Of course we had plenty of food to go around at our Mother’s day brunch! I wrapped pizza dough around asparagus for for an easy appetizer and had lemon cakes on a pretty display. I used another American Greetings gift bag to cut out the “MOM” for the display.
I also made a snack mix with some of our favorite treats… potato chips, chocolate and caramel! Just use Dove Chocolates, chocolate pretzels, potato chips and caramel popcorn for this easy snack mix idea.
This was definitely an occasion worthy of bringing out the fine china! I love my sisters and hope that we will always be close. We all enjoyed talking about the Mother’s day brunch decorations and the food was simply delicious.
